FAQ's -- Queen City Segway Tours

FAQ's

Can I just show up for a tour?

Unfortunately no. We have limited spots so you must reserve in advance to ensure yours will be available on your preferred date and time. You can check for availability by sending your request online!.

How many riders are normally on your Segway tours?

Our Segway tours are designed for smaller more personalized groups and typically carry riders of no more than 13 unless it’s during a major event or convention.

What’s all the hype about Segway touring?

Based on the history of Segway tours, YOU WILL HAVE FUN! Most riders are ready to go in five or ten minutes after receiving their training from our expert guides and feeling confident to glide around the Queen City. There will be some walking involved so you will need to be physically able to walk up and down stairs on your own with your guide nearby. Segways can travel up to 12 miles per hour, however, we travel at much more safer speeds that allow you to take in all of the interesting sites.

What are your requirements and suggestions for a great Segway experience?

Our Segway tours require come athletic ability and coordination much like driving a car. Even older adults find it invigorating. We do strongly suggest that you eat before your tour to rev up the necessary energy to thoroughly enjoy your Segway tour. In addition, you will need to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes; no sandals, flip-flops, or high heels, and comfortable clothing for that time of year. Hats or caps are not permitted because you will need to wear a safety helmet while in motion. Sunglasses are good to have for glare and for eye safety. Each rider is required to sign a release/waiver before beginning their training as well as a “fitness” statement. You must wear your helmet and stay with your group during the entire tour.

What are your weather and other restrictions to Segway touring?

Weather -- Due to safety concerns our Segway tours will not be conducted when it’s raining or snowing. If it begins to rain or snow during your tour we will attempt to complete the entire tour if time permits. If the entire tour cannot be completed, you will be issued a credit or partial refund pro-rated and based on the actual touring time.

Age & Weight --The minimum age to ride is 14 years old, riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person 21 years or older along with a signed waiver from their parent or guardian. Weight restrictions imposed by Segway are that riders must be at least 100 lbs. and no more than 260 lbs. to participate.

Pregnant -- Unfortunately we do not permit any riders that are pregnant or anyone with mental impairments or other medical conditions that may limit their ability to ride safely.

Alcohol -- Due to obvious safety concerns no riders are permitted who are under the influence of or has consumed any alcoholic beverage or other impairing substance.

Is Parking Available?

Yes, either on the street, in a lot, or inside a garage. The fees vary depending on the location and are sometimes free after 6 PM and on weekends. You also have the option of catching the Lynx Blue Line Light Rail Uptown for $2 per person one way.

What is the main difference between your tour and other tours?

Experience! We have conducted more professionally-guided daily tours of Charlotte than any other company. In fact, we have 15 years MORE experience than our most experienced competitor so do the math -- More Experience=More Content=More Bang for Your Buck!

Is there any such thing as a certified guide?

Unfortunately no. There is no official certification process of becoming a tour guide in Charlotte; as such you must apply due diligence in choosing who you spend your hard-earned money. It takes at least 10 years of professional experience to conduct a worthwhile tour of Charlotte!

Why are you not members of Visit Charlotte and does that matter?

We were members of that organization for quite a few years, however, have found the current leadership extremely dishonest. A "paid" membership in Visit Charlotte, however, has absolutely NO bearing on the level of tour that you and your guests will experience on our tours! In fact, we have been conducting tours over a decade longer than that organization has been in existence. Please check with the Better Business Bureau for a more independent review of any company.

Why are your competitors' rated higher in Trip Advisor?

Trip Advisor is a good consumer-based open-sourced review site which is useful, however, should not be used as your sole source of information on any company or service. In addition, please proceed with caution if a "new" company displays an unusually high and frequent list of favorable testimonials. There is a good chance that some of those accolades have been coerced and possibly fabricated to make up for a lack of a long track record of success.

Do your offer discounts or coupons?

Yes, we offer senior discounts as listed on our rates page. In addition, we run special promotions during the year as well as 50% OFF gift certificates during the Christmas season and our slow periods. The best way to keep up with all of our discounts is to "like" us on our Facebook page or sign up for our email list.

What is the fastest way to get on one of your Segway tours?

The fastest way of getting on one of our Segway tours is to contact us early by sending your request online. Please furnish a good email address and your cell phone number so that we can contact you with availability and provide you with payment options. If it is the day of the tour we will text or call you with availability.
